The Marc Harris Organisation Loses Lawsuit
Against Offshore Alert
August 12, 1999
A verdict that quashes The Marc M. Harris Organisation libel lawsuit against David Marchant of Offshore Business News and Research, publisher of Offshore Alert was issued today by a Florida judge the Internet Offshore Entrepreneur has learned. The decision by Judge Michael Moore completely exonerates Marchant of any wrongdoing, stating that he had given the firm ample opportunity to respond to allegations before he ran the story, which led to the suit last year.
The Harris Organisation launched the $30 million lawsuit against Marchant in April, 1998 after Offshore Alert ran a story March 31 entitled "We expose The Harris Organization’s multi-million dollar Ponzi scheme - Offshore centers affected include Panama, BVI, TCI, Nevis, Bahamas, Antigua."
Harris and company were unable to disprove any of the charges made by Marchant in stories published about the organization which included:
- The Harris Organisation was insolvent with liabilities of more than $25 million (in 1996);
- The company was running a Ponzi scheme using new client's money to pay debts;
- It kept records that even a 1st year accounting student would find appalling;
- He laundered money for clients;
- Some of his clients were known felons and a host of other disturbing activities.
Harris also failed in an attempt to silence two Panamanian journalists making similar claims when his case was thrown out of a Panamanian court.
